A few weeks ago, we received a call from Eve, a film student at BYU. She is a production manager and had exhausted her resources looking for a courtroom setting for a scene in a student film.
The project had a very limited budget, (or no budget) and traditional judicial courtrooms all have busy court calendars and can’t accommodate this kind of request. This student was determined to find something and finally called the Utah Film Commission to see if they had any ideas. They referred her to us. How did the Utah Film Commission know about our courtroom? We’ll have to call them to get that mystery solved. Of course, we said yes to this project, “just mention us in the credits”, please.
So Saturday morning, promptly at 9am our student director, Joel, and the production manager, Eve showed up, then more students, actors, extras, equipment and props. It was great to see their professionalism.
They worked all day with only lunch and dinner breaks. They had one day in the courtroom to get everything. It was a long 12 hour day for these students. They left at 9pm, satisfied they had all they needed for their Capstone Project. We won’t give away the film’s story line but you can find out later this summer when we know the premiere date.
