Almost 500,000 baby car seats are safety hazards.
Utah’s birth rate means there are always lots of babies and children in our lives. That’s why we’re so concerned when there are safety issues involving children’s products.
The handle on this car seat/carrier can become loose due to bad product design, and poses a danger to infants.
Imagine picking up the handle of the baby’s car seat/carrier, and the handle breaks. You might drop the baby, stumble and fall-hurting both your child and yourself. All of this happening through no fault of your own. There have been 77 reports of such problems. At least three injuries to babies have been documented including bumps, bruises and a head injury.
Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., the manufacturer is offering a free repair kit to fix the loose handle.
The recall involves Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney branded infant car seat carriers with certain model numbers. The seat was manufactured from January 2008 to April 2009. More information is available at www.cpsc.gov
